BCSPCA Fundraiser for Education and Assistance for Puppy Mill Victims
Fundraiser headed up by Lisa Holzbecher, Payroll Supervisor
Who was involved and how?
The On Side Vancouver office via a successful bake sale fundraiser and generous company matching offer.
Why were we involved?
Just a few weeks ago, over one hundred distressed dogs and cats were seized from a puppy mill and animal boarding house in BC. Sadly, one cat and one kitten had to be euthanized because they were in such poor condition.
What are some key puppy mill statistics?
If you are considering getting a pet, it is important to be aware of puppy mills and the issues associated with them. If a breeder is licensed it doesn’t guarantee that they are taking proper care of the animals. Potential pet owners need to take the time to see where the animals are being housed and ask the breeder questions such as:
- How many litters do the mothers have each year?
- How many breeds do you have? A responsible breeder will only breed up to a maximum of two.
- What is your policy if I find down the road I am unable to take care of my pet?
What was the Vancouver office’s fundraising $$ goal?
Our original goal was to raise a minimum of $1,000. We attained our goal and between employees and our employer we were able to give a cheque for $2,500 to the BCSPCA!
Great work On Side! Absolutely great work!
I think what you are doing is fantastic. Thank you.
As a CKC registered Pedigree breeder my heart breaks for the Puppies/Kittens in the Mills. I simply cannot fathom the neglectful, ignorant and cruel treatment they suffer at the hands of their breeders; for whom very stiff fines and incarceration should be levied . I whole heartedly support your efforts and applaud you for your caring.
This is a nice good news story and I congratulate you all on a job well done.
Thank you
