Surrey, BC – In support of BCAA’s fourth annual Volunteer Day held on Tuesday, May 26th, On Side Restoration partnered with BCAA to lend a hand in beautifying the Alexandra Neighbourhood House in Crescent Beach, Surrey BC.
Working shoulder to shoulder the 81 BCAA and 14 On Side staff members painted, planted and built their way to an improved community environment for the worthy South Surrey community gathering place.
Mike Sully, chief marketing officer, stated “Our team had a great joint BCAA-On Side experience last year up in Squamish so our team was very interested in pairing up to make a difference again in 2015. Sharing symbiotic values, On Side is sincerely pleased to partner with one of our key insurance partners, BCAA.”
As per the previous year, On Side started site preparations well in advance of the 1-day kick-off event. Multiple prior site visits, wood pre-cutting, power washing and painting prep were all key to ensure smooth sailing for the almost 100 volunteers that would come with eagerness, muscle and the manpower to make the key improvements to the facility.
“We are thrilled to participate in this community-focused event. On a day to day basis our work is focused on assisting customers with property emergency issues. In this situation we have the opportunity to engage several of our staff in a neighbourhood project in a non-emergency environment. This brings another level of satisfaction to our staff in the delivery of our core services,” added Ed Gooyers, vice president operations.
Volunteer projects included: washroom paint and dining hall painting, exterior cabin preparations and painting, caretaker’s site cleanup, landscaping, building picnic and fire pit benches as well as building two children’s playground pieces: a creative music wall and water/mud station.
“We are so grateful for the expertise that On Side Restoration has been able to bring to their community workday, alongside their BCAA partner” stated Penny Bradley executive director Alexandra Neighbourhood House. “Our historic site requires a unique approach and On Side has offered us their insight and hours and hours of work leading up to the event, as well as event day. We are very fortunate to be the recipients of this year’s project, the results are amazing!”
On Side and BCAA were also very appreciative to the many vendors that stepped up with contributions in many forms such as paint and painting equipment, debris bins, safety gear and lumber. Highlighted partners included Cloverdale Paint, Smithright and Hazmasters. This volunteer day was a highly successful event, not only thanks to On Side’s approximate $15,000 donation of labour and materials, but largely due to BCAA’s contribution valued at over triple this amount.
