Drywaller/Painter – Saint John

Compensation: $22 – $26/ hour (full-time / permanent)

 

Drywallers at On Side are important team members who, help rebuild and restore damaged personal and commercial property, anywhere and anytime disaster strikes. Delighting clients by making damaged drywall disappear, and new drywall appear in the form of smooth walls and appropriately textured ceilings, drywallers make clients believe magic has happened.

Painters add colour to clients dreams with fresh, clean surfaces in the perfect shade.

 

What you bring as Drywallers

Drywallers bring a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

  • Experience with restoration repairs (vs new or renovation)
  • Experience working in construction environments with tools and the skills to use them
  • Experience using technology to record info as instructed (software and applications)
  • Strong people and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do
  • A safety mindset
  • Valid driver’s licence and a clean criminal record (we do check)
  • Ability to communicate in English written and spoken

 

What you’re responsible for…

A drywaller is skilled in the following ways:

  • Measuring, cutting and installing drywall sheets
  • Tear out old or damaged drywall
  • Cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
  • Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks using trowel and broad knife
  • Tape and embed joints
  • Texturing of all types
  • Site preparation and protection

 

What you bring as Painters

Painters bring a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

  • Experience with restoration: being able to blend the original wall paint and apply new paint to disguise the drywall that was repaired
  • Experience working in construction environments with tools and the skills to use them
  • Attention to detail, passion for quality and pride in the work you do

 

What you’re responsible for…

A painter is skilled in the following ways:

  • Estimate the quantity of materials required by measuring surfaces, reviewing scopes, sketches and work orders
  • Remove old coatings by stripping with solvents, heat, sanding, wire brushing, or water and abrasive blasting
  • Prepare surfaces for covering by cleaning, filling nail holes and cracks, and sanding rough spots
  • Apply an undercoat primer or sealer before painting, or apply sizing before wallpapering
  • Match specified colours by using premixed paints, or mixing colour and thinning and drying additives
  • Use brushes, rollers or spray guns to apply liquid coatings such as paint, stain or varnish to surfaces of wood, metal, brick, concrete, plaster, stucco or stone
  • Apply finishes that are sponged, ragged and layered
  • Apply paper, vinyl or natural and synthetic fabric wallcoverings

 

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

  • Drywall Finisher and Plasterer ticket
  • Texture spraying
  • WHMIS
  • First Aid

 

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.
