Compensation: $30 – $35/ hour (full-time / permanent)
On-call premium and overtime paid for rotating coverage

Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)

Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters and magicians! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson. This role is responsible for performing structural repairs, rebuilding, and finish carpentry following water, fire, mold, or impact-related losses. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, empathetic with homeowners, and committed to high‑quality workmanship in demanding or changing environments.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform structural and finish carpentry including framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, trim, doors, and cabinetry
• Complete restoration repairs to pre-loss condition or better
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites, especially in occupied homes
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with homeowners, clients, and project managers
• Accurately track materials, equipment, and task completion
• Adapt to shifting priorities during emergency response or evolving job scopes
• Follow all safety rules, building codes, and company procedures
• Collaborate effectively with restoration technicians and trades
• Participate in after-hours emergency response on a rotational basis

What you bring

•  Proven experience as a carpenter (renovation, restoration, or residential construction)
• Ability to complete framing, finishing, cabinetry installation, and repair tasks independently
• Strong understanding of safe construction practices and building codes
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and accountability for completing assigned tasks
• Ability to maintain clean, safe, organized work areas
• Ability to shift tasks mid-project and adapt to changing restoration priorities
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in customer homes with empathy and respect
• Valid Driver’s License (Mandatory)
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding environments
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

• Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)
• IICRC certification (restoration focus)
• WHMIS
• First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement. Meaning you’ll work regular weekday hours and participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
